This project depicts a speculative future where technological advancement leads to the end of the world, raising questions about the future of humanity as we know it today. Done as part of "Critical Design" course is Bezalel Academy.

The project was created as a follow-up response to MIT's ▸ "Norman" project, where a psychopathic AI model was developed. The Norman project raised profound questions about the future of humanity in the context of technology.

{ research } The research for this project began with the Industrial Revolution (18th century), which marked humanity’s first significant encounter with industrial machinery. At that time, the process of industrialization gained momentum, and counter-movements also began to arise. One of them was the  “Luddites movement” that opposed industrial progress and spoke out against its dangers. The Luddites were a group of British textile craftsmen who claimed  technology would lead to the replacement of man and would leave people jobless. Members of the movement often broke into factories and destroyed machines. In response, the British government decreed that anyone caught destroying a machine would face the death penalty.later on, I conducted four ▸ Conversations with AI modules, each focusing on a different technological aspect that could potentially lead to the destruction of humanity. These dialogues were translated into a language of symbols and shapes, which ultimately came together in the form of  tapestry-like images.

{ Medium } For this work, I used rug-related connotations to depict events that have yet to occur, essentially serving as the documentation of a vision. The rug is an object with its own unique sense of time and holds various cultural representations throughout history. It has been used as a decorative object, a household item for warmth and insulation, and as a medium for documenting historical events. Different cultures have developed their own symbols and weaving techniques, through which long-standing traditions have been recorded and preserved. The physical dimension of ▸ textile craftsmanship was a key aspect of this project, referencing the Luddite movement and infusing the work with additional meaning. The underlying grid on which these works are based was taken from antique carpets representing different cultures, onto which I imposed a new graphic system.

{ Elements } The project consists of four objects, each reflecting different dialogues. The first element addresses the narrative of  technological singularity, featuring visual representations of technological progress and modernity alongside ancient patterns and elements symbolizing the analog world of the pre-machine era. The second element explores the hazardous world of ▸ cyber-terrorism and the dangers inherent in total reliance on technological systems. The third element deals with ▸ nuclear weapons and the global arms race. The fourth element addresses ▸ global warming, humanity's anti-ecological behavior, and its impact on the planet. The carpets are characterized by a bold and contrasting color palette, which stands in contrast to the melancholic theme of the work. At first glance, the elements appear to be merely decorative details, but upon closer inspection, intricate narratives emerge, raising questions about our future.
